Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island called West Island. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar to its significance. Many people believe that it's an island located that lies west of Montreal However, it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities in Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is commonly known as the place where she was born. It is true that she stayed there for a short time. Brugel grew on Courtice just outside Oshawa in Ontario. When she was a child she wanted to be professional performer, however an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In an article published in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. Once I surpassed the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. Some former dancers switch to acting and in Brugel's case it was the nudge of an instructor in drama at high school which pushed her in the right direction. The teacher suggested she try getting a part in the school's annual production. Following a trial her options, she was eventually the leading lady of Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has landed roles on over 60 shows on both small and large screens, attracting the greatest attention when she landed the part in the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in Season 1 of the series, and not seen much.
